📊 PV-COM + MICROSOFT EXCEL

Your scale weight appears in Excel automatically

No macros. No VBA. No manual entry. PV-COM sends the weight directly to the active Excel cell, advances to the next row and keeps capturing. Compatible with all versions from Excel 97 to Microsoft 365.

● PV-COM capturing in real time

How it works

From scale to Excel in 4 steps

PV-COM acts as an invisible bridge between your scale and Excel. It does not modify Excel in any way — it simply sends the weight as if it were a keyboard.

1

Connect the scale

Connect your scale to the PC via RS-232 or USB. PV-COM detects it automatically.

2

Open Excel

Open your spreadsheet and click on the cell where you want the first weight.

3

Weigh the object

Place the object on the scale. PV-COM waits for the weight to stabilize.

4

Weight in the cell

The weight appears in the active cell and automatically advances to the next row.

💡

How does PV-COM send the weight? PV-COM uses keyboard emulation: it "tells" Windows that a number is being typed, exactly as if an operator were entering it. That's why it works with any Excel version without requiring add-ins, special drivers or macros. The weight can include the unit (kg, g, lb) and you can configure whether Enter, Tab or no key is pressed at the end.

Excel-specific features

More than just sending the weight

PV-COM has options designed to make working with Excel more efficient.

Automatic cell advance

After each weighing, PV-COM can press Enter or Tab to automatically advance to the next row or column. Serial weighing without touching the keyboard.

⚖️

Stable weight detection

PV-COM captures the weight only when the scale indicates it is stable. Prevents capturing weights in motion or transient values.

Configurable format

Choose how many decimals to send, whether to include the unit (kg, g, lb), and the decimal separator (period or comma) based on your Excel regional settings.

📁

Save directly to file

In addition to sending to the active cell, PV-COM can save weighings directly to an Excel or CSV file in the background, without Excel being open.

Timestamp capture

Configure PV-COM to send the date and time of each weighing to the adjacent column along with the weight. Complete automatic log.

Continuous mode

In continuous mode, PV-COM captures the weight every X seconds or whenever it detects a new object on the scale. Ideal for production lines.

Compatibility

Works with all Excel versions

From legacy versions to the latest release. PV-COM does not require any special Excel features because it works at the operating system level, not inside Excel.

Excel 2002 (XP)
Excel 2003
Excel 2007
Excel 2010
Excel 2013
Excel 2016

Requirement: Windows 10 or Windows 11 (32 or 64-bit). PV-COM does not work on macOS or Linux. Excel can be installed locally or in web mode (Microsoft 365 in browser) — in both cases PV-COM sends the weight to the active cell.

Frequently asked questions

Scale + Excel with PV-COM

Answers to the most common questions about the integration.

Do I need macros or VBA in Excel for it to work?
No. PV-COM works via keyboard emulation at the operating system level. No Excel modification required: no macros, no VBA, no add-ins. Open Excel as usual, click the cell and the weight arrives automatically.
Can I weigh multiple products in a row without touching the keyboard?
Yes. PV-COM can be configured to automatically press Enter or Tab after each weighing, advancing to the next cell or row. You can weigh a series of products in sequence without touching anything: you weigh, the number appears, it advances, you weigh the next.
Does it work with Excel in the cloud (Microsoft 365 web)?
Yes, as long as the active cell is in the browser and focus is on that cell. PV-COM sends the weight as if it were a keyboard, so it works in Excel web on Chrome, Edge and other browsers on Windows.
Can I record the date and time along with the weight?
Yes. PV-COM can be configured to send the weight to one cell and the date/time to the adjacent cell automatically. You can also save weighings to an Excel or CSV file in the background with a full timestamp.
What happens if the scale weight fluctuates?
PV-COM has a stability filter: it waits for the scale indicator to show the weight is stable before capturing it. This prevents sending values that are in motion or transient. The stability threshold is configurable.
Can I use a comma instead of a period as the decimal separator?
Yes. PV-COM lets you configure the decimal separator (period or comma) to match your Excel regional settings. In the US and most English-speaking countries, Excel uses a period as the decimal separator.
Does it work with USB scales that have no driver?
Yes. PV-COM supports USB HID scales (recognized by Windows as a human interface device) and USB scales that use an RS-232/USB converter chip. In both cases PV-COM reads the weight and sends it to Excel.

Technical guide

Technical answers about scales and Excel

How to connect an RS-232 scale to Excel?

With PV-COM, connect the RS-232 scale to the PC serial port (or via USB-RS232 adapter), configure the baud rate and scale model in PV-COM, open Excel, click the cell and the weight appears automatically when weighing.

How to avoid weight entry errors in Excel?

Manual weight entry generates transcription errors that can cost money in inventory and shipping. PV-COM eliminates manual entry by sending the weight directly from the scale to the Excel cell, completely removing human error.

How to log mass weighings in Excel?

To log many consecutive weighings in Excel, configure PV-COM in continuous mode with automatic cell advance. Each time the scale detects a stable weight, it sends it to the active cell and advances to the next row. No manual intervention between weighings.

Ready to eliminate manual data entry in Excel?

One lifetime license. Remote installation included. 1-year support.
